You can delete your Shima account and all the data attached to it at any time, from inside the app. There is no need to write to us or give a reason.
How to delete your account from the app
1Open Shima and sign in.
2Tap “Profile”, in the bar at the bottom.
3Scroll down to “Your data” and tap “Delete my account”, at the end of the screen.
4Confirm twice. The app signs you out and the date is noted.
You have ten days to change your mind. If you sign in again before they pass, the deletion is cancelled and the app tells you so. After ten days, everything described below is deleted and cannot be recovered.
If you cannot get into the app
Write to hola@shimaapp.com from the email you signed up with (or the one on your Google or Apple account), and we will delete your account by hand within 7 days at most. We will confirm by email once it is done.
If you signed in with Apple and chose to hide your email, your Shima account does not carry your usual email but an address Apple created only for Shima, ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com. If you write to us from your usual email, we will not know which account is yours. If you can still sign in with Apple, the simplest thing is to delete it from the app, with the steps above. If not, put that address in your message: on the iPhone you find it in Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple → Shima.
What is deleted
Your profile: name, email, phone if you added one, photo.
The spaces you created that nobody else used, with everything in them.
The photos, videos and voice notes you uploaded to those spaces.
Your voice reactions, in any space.
Your membership in all spaces and vaults.
The origin of your install and the rest of the technical data tied to your account.
What stays, and why
Spaces you shared with someone are not deleted: they pass, with everything inside, to the person who has been in them longest. They are also that person’s memories. Whoever receives them can remove whatever they like.
What you uploaded to other people’s spaces —photos, videos and notes of the day— stays there, for the same reason; it no longer carries your name, and whoever owns the space can remove it whenever they want.
Billing records of purchases already made (amount, date and plan), because tax law requires keeping them for up to 4 years. They never include card data: subscriptions are charged by the store where you bought them (Google Play or App Store) and the printed book, when available, by Stripe; that data does not go through our servers.
From a book order, the shipping and billing details, for as long as the law requires.
Everything else is deleted when the ten days are up, also from file storage.
